Board nominations open

Hi everyone, As per our governance schedule, we have opened nominations for the board for 2026. For everyone's information, I've attached the notes from the GRAF meeting which discussed gaps in our board composition and identified priorities for future appointments. If you have questions, or suggestions, please reach out to Criena or myself. We are proactively communicating board recruitment this year - i.e. beyond communications to the membership - to help support a proper canvassing of the field, particularly given the focus on skills-requirements in legal, finance, governance and fundraising/development. I do think we will need to also do some shoulder-tapping, so again if anyone comes to mind as someone we should be considering, please do let me know. Update - PAC office relocation

Hi everyone, An update for everyone on the relocation of the PAC Australia office. This is very operational, but I wanted everyone to be aware of what the arrangements will look like moving forward as there have been some important developments. 1. The GRAF committee will be aware, but for everyone else's information, about one week after we notified the team of the Sydney relocation, we received notice from the Perth office property managers that our rent was increasing 524% with one month's notice ($850/month to $5311/month). This made the decision to vacate the office easier than we expected! That said, we have negotiated an incremental increase to lessen the blow, and intend to give required one month's notice on or around 21 August that we will vacate. The increased rent for September is $1,800, but that will be pro rated based on our vacate date. Tenants will be notified as required. 1. The Hay Street staff are comfortable to revert to WFH arrangements and we are working with them in that transition. The last working day in the office for the team is expected to be Friday, 28 August. There are a lot of staff taking leave in varying periods immediately after APAX, so it was ultimately easier to get everybody into WFH arrangements prior to APAX, then the Operations Manager will finalise the office wrap up by our vacate day. 1. Selected Creative Australia staff have now been notified of the relocation via a meeting and email - no issues to report. 1. The WA department (DCITS) have now been notified in a meeting, to be followed up in writing. Strong messaging that PAC will still definitely have a presence in WA. No issues to report. 1. Next to notify are some peak bodies here in WA, Perth Festival and the Arts and Culture Trust, before we announce at APAX. 1. I will circulate a key messages brief for the board shortly so that you are equipped to answer any questions once the embargo has been lifted. An updated comms schedule is attached, based on the new move-out timeline. 1. With huge thanks to Ian, the team are now locking in new virtual address options and phone arrangements. The new phone system will need to be sorted before we vacate the office, so hoping it will be operational in the next two weeks. It's my understanding that phone numbers won't change, but will advise. 1. We intend to proceed with a virtual address for both Perth and Sydney that will satisfy registered address requirements and basic mail direction services. The selected provider/plan will also be scalable to include hot-desking or meeting room options as needed in the future. 1. I have been offered a temporary workspace at the Arts Exchange in The Rocks as needed when I arrive in Sydney which will be useful, particularly until I confirm my own personal address and WFH arrangements. (Though I'd love to pick up a conversation with Kerri Glasscock about a permanent/longer-term arrangement in the building - but the virtual address will still provide us the stability we need so any final workspaces can be fluid/portable). APAX sales

Hi everyone, Very pleased to report that at the close of early bird registrations for APAX, we've hit 108% of target delegate numbers and 96% of target income - so I expect we will have no problem exceeding the income target in the final weeks before registration closes. Wendy Blacklock award

Good afternoon everyone, An update and action requested on this year's Wendy Blacklock Industry Legend Award. Angela, Louisa, Heidi and myself have met and conferred to make a recommendation to the board for this year's winner. However, in a slightly more complex outcome than previous years, I have two items to put before you. 1. WBIL winner - Arts on Tour. Recognising ongoing and esteemed sector leadership, from core business through to extraordinary outputs in exceptional times. They have been recognised several times over the years as joint winners of our previous Tour of the Year award, and received the inaugural Innovator Award for their Green Touring work. However, the WBIL recognises their service to the sector through initiatives and collaborations supporting: * mental wellbeing on the road - Tour Well with the Arts Wellbeing Collective * sustainable touring - carbon offset calculator with ARUP, Green Touring Guide, support of the Australian edition of the Theatre Green Book * tour readiness - their Tour Lab and The Clinic initiatives * market development - Salon and backroads * workforce development - championing Cally Bartley's development of Tour Ready Tour Fit initiative with ATYP and PAC Australia * community engagement - ENGAGE! with CAAP Each of these initiatives alone is an incredible achievement, but this entire program combines to make Arts on Tour one of the most prolific and purpose/change-driven organisations in the sector, delivering real transformation and outcomes for presenters, artists and producers across the country. All this above and beyond their actual core business of tour coordination, which is delivered with human-centered care, always seeking the best outcome for all partners involved, which they have done for many, many years. We felt it will be important to celebrate Arts on Tour while Antonia Seymour is still at the helm. While we have no insight as to whether she is planning to move on, it was noted that she has just clocked 10 years of service. 1. Additional Award in 2026 (not WBIL) - to posthumously recognise Fiona Winning. We did discuss giving the WBIL to Fiona Winning in recognition of her extraordinary career. In confidence, this is more complex for the reasons outlined below, however we are still seeking the board's consideration of whether to bestow a special, one-off additional IMPACT Award. Factors to consider: * In strict confidence - the IMPACT Awards panel have determined Fiona's partner, Harley Stumm, as an IMPACT award winner this year, for his often unseen/unrecognised work and advocacy for artists and the touring sector. The panel were asked to consider to Fiona for an award as well, however they have deferred this to the board, asking whether a special recognition might be made as they were working with a maximum of 5 awards to bestow and felt other nominees more fitting. The fact that Harley will win an IMPACT award is only raised because I believe we also need to consult with him if we decide to pursue an additional award. * We have bestowed a post-humous IMPACT Award in the past, to David Lloyd at our inaugural ceremony in 2022, although this was based on a nomination received from within the membership.
