Subject: Black Swan AD Appointment

Hi all

Further to last update on our AD process: I am writing to share with you, embargoed until Monday 6 July - Matt Edgerton has been appointed as Black Swan State Theatre Company's new Artistic Director, after a comprehensive search.

As you know - Matt is a multi award-winning director, dramaturg, actor and writer with a passion for developing new work, and a long history with our company – for Black Swan he has directed Fully Sikh, The Seed, and most recently the critically acclaimed world premiere of The Shepherd's Hut. His career spans roles including Head of New Work at Melbourne Theatre Company, Artistic Director of Barking Gecko Theatre Company, and Senior Lecturer at WAAPA. We can't wait to see the bold, distinctive vision he brings to the role.

 In Matt’s own words:

"Black Swan gave me my first professional break in the epic Plainsong, directed by its Founding Artistic Director Andrew Ross. Nearly thirty years later, it is the greatest honour of my career to be appointed as the company's fifth Artistic Director.

I can't wait to begin work with the amazing Black Swan team and our community of exceptional artists to create the next wave of great Western Australian theatre for audiences here and across the country - work that is bold, eclectic and unmistakably our own."

We're all genuinely excited about this new chapter, and at the same time, personally, as you can imagine, it’s been brilliant to work with Kate Champion, who will conclude her time as Artistic Director at the end of this year, and we are very grateful for her wonderful contribution to Black Swan.

Best
