Thanks for all the hard work and examples. The MTC ones are great. I particularly like seeing people walking into the building and at the various contact points.

Thinking ahead to APAX Brisbane, you are not going to be on the site visit Nate, and I might not be able to get all the right images (unless I see a show and ask permission of box office and ushers) but if you could (after APAM) create a list of exactly what shots we need for each venue then I can work through them as part of the site visit.

Thanks Rosie, baby steps but good to be looking at this area of things now. Will have a look at the MTC ones! PLWA sent me ARCO’s as a good example which I’m attaching here, it’s a bit spiffier than ours could be with what I had on hand but as I say plan is to be more ‘intentional’ about it for our next events and get something slicker together. 

I thought of the performance-specific warnings side of things (the attached does this so nicely) but it felt like a shortcut to a suddenly very time-consuming process and a 40-page document so I shelved it for next time. It’s on my list to do a good audit of our access resources/collateral post APAM and map out and plan farther ahead on what we want and how we want to put it together for events, that ‘deeper thinking’ you mentioned. Always room to learn more / be doing more. 

Good note though that maybe the ‘content warnings’ question we have in our profile or production forms has slipped out of our processes a bit / we could be doing more with that data perhaps.

I know we don’t really have a huge amount of control/detail on the pitching sessions, but it may be helpful to add any performance- specific sensory warnings if we have them? Deep work maybe not for APAM but could be embedded into APAX applications?

Hi all 

 

As requested in the team meeting here FYI is the Visual Story I put together for APAM. Please ignore the design, Claire’s in the process of prettifying it in another doc, I’m just sending this draft PDF so you can see the content and I can cross it off my list.

 

Visual stories are documents (often videos, even better) that tell the ’story’ of attending an event or performance, from arrival to navigating the venue, what you’re likely to experience from a sights/sounds/mood point of view, during the event and after. It’s intentionally written in plain, relatively informal language. These are immensely useful to delegates for all kinds of reasons, eg sensory, anxiety, mobility. One APAM delegate uses forearm crutches to get around and has some other health considerations, and we discussed things like walking distances, stairs/steps, heavy doors, navigating buffet service, networking setup and venues, distance between catering stations and places to sit, where places to sit were, coach or taxi pick up and drop off points, and more. So you can see how images and video can be invaluable in providing a good sense of how to prepare for each day/venue. We do also have the Accessibility Guide, but the feedback we’ve gotten (that I got again yesterday) is that something like a Visual Story can be much more useful in a practical sense. 

 

Granted the attached isn’t hugely detailed, this one is a bit of a pilot / tester I’ve put together with what we had on hand. Next time I’ll join in on site visits to see the venues for myself and get images and walkthrough videos, and it will level up. Big thanks Eddie for helping me figure out how to word some things and Cecile who took some of the images we ended up using.
